When Alexander Kreis, our master gem-cutter, began his career, he represented the coming together of two distinguished generations of gem-cutting families. For over five hundred years the finely-honed skills and trade secrets of turning rough stones into things of beauty have been passed down from generation to generation.
Alexander began learning long before he started any traditional education, just as his father had before him, and his father before him. Alexander spent hours sitting patiently watching his grandfather at work. He loved to watch and listen to the stories that his grandfather would tell him about where the rough stones came from, how, if you looked closely you could see the beauty shine individually in each one, and how, with careful and painstaking work, a person could bring out their beauty in its entirety.
